How I Met Amy (Ava) and Our Early Relationship
In 2004, while working as a well-to-do telecom executive, I traveled to Hong Kong for business. Before my trip, I posted on a dating site looking to meet someone who could show me around the city. Amy (Ava) responded to my ad, and we arranged to meet.
At the time, Amy was an unemployed contract Mandarin teacher who had recently ended a relationship with a still married man who had been supporting her. She was living with her young son, Tommy, and was hoping to find a partner who would accept and take care of both of them.
During my time in Hong Kong, Amy and I went on two dates, one of which included a dinner with a member of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council (LegCo). As my trip came to an end, we decided to pursue a relationship. It was then that Amy asked me to start supporting her financially, marking the beginning of our life together.
This period set the foundation for what would become a 17-year relationship, shaping both of our lives in ways we could not have anticipated.
